TXST Open Datathon 2026
This year’s Datathon embraces the theme “Where’s the Data?”, inviting participants to explore the entire journey of data—from its initial collection to storage, preservation, and ultimate use for meaningful impact. The event emphasizes the power of open data shared by researchers, governments, companies, and organizations to address real-world challenges. Participants will collaborate in teams to investigate selected challenge topics and uncover insights using open datasets. The goal is not only to analyze and interpret data but also to visualize it and demonstrate how open data can drive innovation and positive change.
Event Details:
- The Datathon begins on February 6 with an engaging kickoff event featuring an opening talk and keynote address on open data research. During the competition week, teams will dive into the selected challenge topic and uncover insights using open data. Daily office hours will be available for guidance and Q&A support.
- To showcase your work, teams must design a digital poster and submit it along with their final dataset to the TXST Dataverse Repositories by 12:00 p.m. on February 12. Each team will then deliver a 5-minute in-person presentation to a panel of expert judges, who will evaluate projects using a pre-distributed rubric.
- Participants who complete and present their projects will receive a certificate of completion, and awards will be presented to the top three graduate teams and top three undergraduate teams with the highest overall scores.
